Looks amazing pete, I must admit, I am particularly fond of the different wear finishes on the different wood panels! ![]()

You don't like the Garand sling? I have found them most conveniently designed and useful.
Here's mine. Had the wooden parts made at a furniture shop. Realsteel metal bits. Unfortunately, i couldn't find a machine shop that could replicate the fine treading on the cylinder lock for my barrel extender so he made me a new (but farby) lock instead...

Ah, and as I take pride in being deliberately (honest) crap I use mine all the time.
Why don't snipers use slings?
Do they have someone to carry their rifle for them or something?
EDIT - oops nearly put a rogue apostrophe in there!
The US Army field manuals of the day actually illustrate the use of the sling as an aid to marksmanship, no bipods on sniper rifles back then after all.

Firstly Greetings my second post . After agreeing to a vietnam game of airsoft with my friends i spent time looking for an M1 or 2 but got plesantly side tracked by a 6mm TM 14 conversion with real wood fore and real steel fittings on Arnies .. It came with a well painted plastic stock and to be honest looks the part so for now my pennies are going on the internals . I got a 14 mid cap with it and two converted short mags . These short mags suit me just fine . but as i said i have only two . i have tried contacting shoot and scoot on the off chance they could help but so far no reply .. SO... can anyone tell me what the mags possibly are / were so i can fabricate more ![]()
He he silly mod ... placed a small square of sticky sided foam in the mag well so when i hir the release catch it throws the mag not unlike the clip .
makes me smile any way ..
As i said internal upgrades are due as internaly she was bog standard and the site this was intended for allows modified DMR fps and the auto function has been removed ...lipos are going in and a active breaking mosfet and a hybrid motor for trigger responce . i should have it back in a few days so as soon as i do ill post pics
IF anyone has any relative information as to the Garand being used in the Nam i would be interested ... never hurts to justify dated kit ![]()
Yep, they were issued as sniping rifles, at least early on.

This isn't really the place to start a dispute about whether they were or not, but the M14 (M1 Garand with an extended magazine and a few other slight alterations) were available at that point, why the hell would they use Garands...not sure that's accurate at all.

just got back from a rummadge in dropzone in surry ... I dont know the availability of garand parts normaly, but they have imaculate stocks with the grease paper still on the buttplate for £30 one of which i have brought to see if we can mill out to take the 14 aeg .. were looking at a smaller systema motor and machining the housing so as not to weaken the stock ... They also have a box full of metal clips .... They have a beautiful de-ac garand but to pricey for me
hope this isnt seen as spam ... just wanted to share

lol not trying to start a dispute just trying to justify taking my baby to a Nam game . ( been told that they were also issued to advisers )
Again a noob to this era ( just got so caught up in the ethos ). trying to find a replica M81 /82 / 84 scope and more details on the offset mount if anyone can help
Pretty sure they had M14's but I'm not an expert!

From Wikipedia (not the best source I know but I haven't got time to trawel through book atm)
"The M1 was used heavily by U.S. forces in World War II, the Korean War, and, to a limited extent, the Vietnam War"
"with the exception of the sniper variants, which were introduced in World War II and saw action in Korea and Vietnam"
I believe they were using accurised/specially selected versions specifically for sniping - the standard M14 wouldn't have been built to the same tolerances and it probbaly would have been cheaper to have issued such modified versions of the Garand early on.
-Matt
Edit: The m14 was the main issue rifle at the start of the war; the garand was only for specialist use.
According to "The M1 Garand 1936-1957" by Joe Poyer and Craig Riesch M1D Garand sniper rifle " continued in use well into the war in Vietnam and were used by both American and South Vietnamese forces."
Thankyou guys ...see i knew some one out there would have the right info
very pretty .... did you have much trouble getting the motor to fit into the stock with the existing motor cage ? Very hesitant to machine my stock as it seems that it will only leave 1/8th of an inch of wood each side
Hi all
Apologies if this is somewhere else but I have used the search feature with no results
I am interested in the S&S Garand and would appreciate a quick review from any owners out there
Cheers
